Title: Special Events and Outreach Assistant
Commitment: 10 hours / season

Nature Centre special events attract nature-lovers of all ages to learn more about the nature in High Park. We need volunteers to help with Owl Prowls, Christmas Bird Programs for Families, Halloween Hikes, Bat Nights and more! We also need help with staffing Nature Centre info tables at Outreach events both inside and outside of the park.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Assisting Nature Centre staff deliver special events both indoors and outdoors
  • Taking photographs for use by the Nature Centre in promotional materials
  • Assist in preparing coffee or tea and occasionally snacks
  • Setting up Nature Centre info table at outreach events and providing program and park info to people who visit table
  • Assist in setting-up before and cleaning-up after the event
  • Participating in an orientation / training session

What we are looking for in a volunteer:

  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with people of all ages
  • Familiarity with High Park is an asset
  • Nature interpretation skills and knowledge of local ecology is a strong asset
  • Dedication to and understanding of environmental issues
  • Ability to climb steep slopes and walk rugged terrain
  • 16 years of age or older
  • Valid police record check

The objective of the record check is to confirm a candidate’s personal suitability to perform appropriately in a position of trust with vulnerable persons.
