Guiding and Scouting Programs

The High Park Nature Centre offers a wide range of outdoor environmental and stewardship programs to Guides and Scouts. Our programs are designed to help encourage exploration and observation of the natural world and to help participants earn badges in a number of ecologically-focused areas.

Wonder Nature HikeSP, BW, S, F
Explore the wonders of High Park in any season! Engage your senses while jumping in piles of coloured fall leaves, hand-feeding flocks of winter birds, or exploring the blooming of spring's beautiful wildflowers.
Spring PlantingSP, BS
Experience the richness of a rare natural prairie habitat right in the heart of the city! Participants will gain first-hand experience in protecting habitats by planting native plants in High Park's rare black oak savannah habitat.
High Park at Night Hike SP, B, BR, CW, S, F
High Park is home to many nocturnal creatures. Explore how many urban animals survive in the dark!
Birding BasicsBR, C, G, SCW, S, F
Learn the basics of bird watching and discover the many species of birds that depend on High Park to survive. Explore High Park as a stopover during migration, as a site for nesting, or as a destination for winter birds.
Savannah StewardsBR, C, G, SCS, F
Did you know that High Park is home to the black oak savannah, one of North America's most endangered ecosystems? Become stewards of the savannah by planting native wildflowers and grasses or creating and dispersing native seed balls.
OrienteeringBR, C, G, SCS, F
Learn the basics of map and compass work during this hands-on program. Participants will practice their new skills on an orienteering course in High Park.
Screech and HootBR, C, G, SCW, S, F
Learn about High Park's nocturnal owl species, explore their unique adaptations, and find out what they eat for their midnight snack while dissecting owl pellets!
Urban ForestryG, SCS, F
Explore the diversity of High Park's urban forest! Learn techniques on how to identify trees and discover how to protect the health of our oak woodlands from many urban threats.
Urban Wildlife: At home in the cityG, SCS, F
Even in the middle of a big city, wild animals can find everything they need to survive - sometimes they just need to be creative! Discover the incredible diversity of animals that live in Toronto's largest urban park, High Park.
Moonlight Snowshoe HikeSP, B, BR, C, G, SCW
Discover the ancient art of snowshoeing. Learn basic techniques with modern snowshoes and then go on a snowshoe hike in High Park by moon! (snow conditions permitting)
2011/12 Fees
2-hour program: $7.50 per participant, $90.00 minimum group fee
Leaders, volunteers and parents participate at no-charge.
Days & Times
Program times can be slightly modified to accommodate group meeting schedules. Please inquire about varied times during booking process.
