March 31, 2012
On March 31, 2012, cities around the world will turn off their lights for Earth Hour—an event to raise awareness about climate change.
Join the High Park Nature Centre in celebrating this event by joining us in our lantern-making workshop, night hike, and bonfire!
Like our Family Nature Walks, this event is $2 or donate-what-you-can.
This is a family event; great for all ages!
Lantern-Making Workshop
meet at the Howard Park Tennis Club
6:30 – 8:00 pm
(pre-registration necessary)
Craft a beautiful glass jar lantern and learn simple things you can do everyday to conserve energy!
Pre-registration is required for the lantern-making workshop. To reserve your spot, please contact us by email at naturecentre@highpark.org or by phone at 416-392-9900 ext.2.
Earth Hour Walk in High Park
meet under the pines by the High Park Nature Centre
8:00 – 9:00 pm
(no registration necessary)
Following the workshop, we will take our home-made lights to guide us in an Earth Hour walk. No pre-registration is necessary to join us on the walk. Please meet under the pines at 8:00 pm, and feel free to bring your own lantern from home if you missed the workshop!
Fire lit Reception at the High Park Nature Centre
meet in the old lawn bowling field (fenced in area) by the High Park Nature Centre
9:00 – 9:30 pm
(no registration necessary)
Our trusty Nature Centre guides will lead us through the forest and back to the Nature Centre for 9:00 pm, where a brilliant bonfire in the bowling field will light up the night!
PLEASE BRING:
• one clean glass jar per person if registered for the lantern making workshop (for best results, please bring a jar that is taller than 10 cm – candles in shorter jars tend to blow out very easily!)
• a few tea light candles (to light the way with your beautiful lanterns)
• clothing that is appropriate for the weather (we will be outside, unless if there is severely inclement weather)
• a flashlight – helpful in the case of rainy weather
• a $2 (recommended) donation to the Nature Centre
PLEASE REMEMBER TO TURN OFF THE LIGHTS AT HOME BEFORE LEAVING FOR THE WORKSHOP!
