Cherry Blossom Update #6

The Sakura trees have been in full bloom all week and are beginning to drop their petals (which is a beautiful process). The trees on the slope going down to Grenadier Pond will be past full bloom shortly. However, if you are visiting this weekend, check out the cherry blossoms near the Adventure Playground. They are a few days behind the ones near Grenadier and should still be in full bloom this weekend.

Many people were enjoying a hanami beneath the sakura trees despite the clouds and rain on Thursday

  1. Thanks for the info and updates! We went hanami today, and it was beautiful and the weather was perfect. However, I did notice many people picking the flowers off the trees (and even some tearing off entire branches!) It’s really too bad to see that happening :( maybe more staff could be around, or signs put up, or something…

  2. I am writing to report that some visitors were tried to destroy the Sakura Tree. I don’t know are they the first group of people tried to destroy this tree. BUT, I saw that they were keep pulling down the tree trunk. When they noticed that I was shooting them, they left immediately.

The following photos were taken on 17 April, 2010 around 8am.

  3. Thank you for bringing up this issue. We would like to remind all visitors of respecting the Sakura trees. In fact, it is important to respect ALL nature within High Park. It is there for everybody to enjoy, learn from and take care of.

  4. I’m glad you had a good hanami experience. It is sad that people try to take parts of the sakuras with them.

    Thanks!
